Exclusive "Uncirculated" Interview With Chuck From 1995 Released Online

Mark Morton at Examiner.com contacted EW today with the following update:

"To try to brighten the somber day that is December 13th, I unearthed an old interview that I did with Chuck from 1995 while DEATH was on the Metal To The Masses tour. It originally appeared in the tiny fanzine Morbid Voice, which suffered from poor circulation (among other things), so I thought it might be a good time to give the interview new life, as it were."

Read the interview here. Thanks Mark.

    Message From Chuck's Sister

Each and every year I try to skip December 13th, but no matter how hard I try, someone or something smacks me in the face and makes me face another year without Chuck; plain and simple, it sucks.
Kees and Yvonne have been instrumental in keeping Chuck's memory alive through their incredible memorial project, Emptywords.org. Aside from this wonderful project, they have been dear friends of our family, in fact, they are considered a part of our family and make talking about Chuck a happy subject.

Eric Greif has been a warrior in rounding up Chuck's music scattered all over the Globe and has fought the good fight in protecting Chuck's memory and Legacy. He in the past was always like a brother to me and even though time, distance and circumstances have separated us, he remains family to us; a brother to me.

The fans? What can I say? Hardcore and Loyal are the first two words that come to mind. No less is their unwavering compassion towards us, Chuck's family, over the years. Chuck would be grateful for their compassion and humbled by their unyielding Loyalty; Chuck was a lucky man indeed.

Next year I am NOT going to try to "skip over" December 13th. Instead of the huge hole I feel in my heart, I am going to fill it with all of the very wonderful memories of the times Chuck and I shared; times we shared with our Dad, Mom and his nephew Christopher.

"Thank you" to all mentioned here seems so small, but thank you anyway, for all that each and every one of you have done, with all of my heart and soul.

    With Warm Regards,
    Beth Schuldiner

    Message From Eric Greif

"It never ceases to amaze me how dedicated Chuck's fans are, not to mention the size of DEATH's 'metal crusade'. Those of us who knew Chuck intimately saw the humble metal dude who was genuinely appreciative of all his fans. The core group of us working daily on preserving Chuck's creative legacy are dedicated to widening the net, introducing his music to a new generation, and to bringing out the most exciting releases of rarities and reissues, all to Chuck's demanding standards. Thanks for your continued support & belief...and thanks for sharing with us your love for Chuck and his words & music."

9th Anniversary Of Chuck's Passing, Day Of Remembrance Tomorrow

"Legend, myth, genius and “father of the Death Metal”. These are some of the titles the American musician holds today, nine years after he passed away from a rare brain tumor. The younger generations should be asking themselves: Chuck what? Who was he? What did he do and why is he so special?"

So for tomorrow, December 13th, 2010, the 9th anniversary of Chuck’s passing, we have an interview with Chuck's mom, titled: Chuck Schuldiner: the man behind the myth, published in the Brazilian newspaper O Dia. "Now you'll know what it's like to be the father of the death metal." Thanks Mara & all at Distorção & O Dia.

And we posted three new 'Fragile Art' reviews from Deadtide, BraveWords & Metal Review + some words from the guestbook below by Daniel. Enjoy!

Wow the 9th anniversary, time flies...

I can remember when I first stumbled upon Death, many years ago when I was just a kid. I was searching through the empty aisles at my local store when I saw that piercing eye, I had never heard of Death before. The artwork immediately had hooked me in as I rushed to the counter with Symbolic. I remember I spent all my pocket money on it & couldn't get anything for awhile ha!

As soon as I got home I chucked Symbolic into the cd player & I listened with my Sister. Little did I know my Sis had bought Symbolic years before I did but it was alright I loved the artwork. Over the next year or so my Sis & I bought all of Death's albums as we began to love Death. (We still do)

Sadly my Mum passed away 1 month before my 12th Birthday after a long 2 year battle with cervical cancer. To help me cope my Grandmother bought me my first guitar & taught me the basics. Over the years I became better & more passionate towards the guitar as I had Chuck and my Mum as inspiration.

So now here I am 16 years old. Still as crazy about Death as I was 7 years ago. Thanks to Chuck I kept persevering with guitar & I am now in my own band in the early stages of recording our first album. Whenever I'm having a bad day I love to sit down and listen to Death as it puts a smile on my face every time. Thank you Chuck for being my muse & helping me through rough times!

My thoughts are with Chuck's family & friends as I know how it feels to lose someone you love. Rest In Peace Chuck Schuldiner, you will never be forgotten.

    Cheers

    Daniel

    Happy Holidays

    Message From Eric Greif

Recently Beth Schuldiner & I started giving official endorsements to some of the many DEATH tribute bands around the world. A gesture of goodwill & support, it is a recognition of the continued efforts of these bands in keeping Chuck's music alive for a new generation, to which we are grateful. We also have endorsed specific tribute concerts, some that we've attended ourselves when able.

In March I had the pleasure to attend a DEATH tribute hosted in Calgary, Alberta, Canada by Don Stenhouse & his band Reverend Kill (www.reverendkill.com) and I had a blast. Don has done this several times over the years and I encourage people to check out Reverend Kill and tell them I sent you. Derek Petrovitch, who won the DEATH touring banner in the Schuldiner's essay contest last December, attended and had the banner up on the stage, which made the event even more killer! Beth wrote a thank you note to Don, who mentioned it to the crowd of fans & various bands who all came up to play a DEATH song or two.

Anyway, I've been busy editing another 3 minute clip from video footage Jane Schuldiner discovered of me & Chuck on a promotional trip to Europe. I'm also stoked about Relapse's upcoming reissue of CONTROL DENIED's The Fragile Art of Existence, and all the groovy extras! And don't get me started about the MANTAS release we're putting together...that's going to be awesome.

OK - keep the metal flowing, ERIC GREIF

The Road To Death’s Lack Of Comprehension Video

EmptyWords proudly presents this 3 minute clip that Chuck’s former manager and current legal rep Eric Greif has edited from the raw footage made in September 1991. Eric: “I hope Jane isn't unhappy about seeing Chuck say the f-word (twice)... but as we all know, this WAS Chuck at his most human and normal, and why I love it. Yes, Chuck was sometimes brutal and intense, but the majority of the time he was friendly, witty & silly. Enjoy!”

There has been quite a lot of chatter on the net about things happening in the world of Chuck, DEATH & Control Denied. Normally we would heed Chuck's advice and stay clear of rumours. However, be assured that all will be revealed by emptywords.org very soon indeed! It is extremely exciting, so hold on to your hats - it all begins on Chuck's (43rd) birthday. In the meantime, keep it groovy & flowing.
