Im sure its no big
surprise that I, an admitted death metalhead, would decide to
review this one for my classic submission. I picked this up about
a year ago as part of my never-ending quest to obtain long time
favorites in CD format. When I laid eyes on this one on a table
at the Milwaukee Metalfest, my hand went directly to my pocket.
It had been so long since Id listened to my beat up cassette,
it was like hearing it for the first time. What a treat. By my
standards today, I would hail this as an amazing release. Consider
that this came out a dozen years ago, and you start to get the
picture. We all know we owe Lord Chuck an inestimable debt for
delivering the mayhem that is Death to our ears. I decided it
was about damn time somebody officially gave this band the hallowed
"classic" status that it deserves.
You may ask, why did I pick
this album when the others are so great, too? Perhaps its
because I got it so recently, and Im still high on it
fresh in my mind and all that. Or maybe its because its
damn good. Or possibly because theyre all so damn good,
I just had to start somewhere! Frankly, I think theyre all
fantastic albums, and each deserves a review. Until the next time
then, listen to this one and join me in wishing Chuck a continued
speedy and full recovery.
